Lots of sanding

Today was all sanding. The good news is the canard is done, for now. The bottom side is smooth, but has a few ugly spots where the the underlying structure prints through the thin primer. If I get really ambitious I’ll put another coat on. Then I sanded out the cowl epoxy wipe. It isContinue reading “Lots of sanding”

Go-on-git! Ugly Betty is no longer welcome here.

I went to bed early last night in order to get some rest so I could wake up early this morning, well early for me. It was one cup of coffee, really not enough, then out to the Garaggio. I finished the strake to longeron intersections and spent quite a bit of time with the spot putty,Continue reading “Go-on-git! Ugly Betty is no longer welcome here.”

“Those Days”

Today was one of, “those days.” I got home late enough last night that it really was this morning. I didn’t get out to the shop as early as I would have liked because not only did I need the sleep, but I had to play plumber. The water heater decided to start leaking yesterdayContinue reading ““Those Days””

Building Season is Here

In the homebuilt airplane world, there are two seasons of the year, flying season and building season. I suppose that stems from the fact that there are more nice flying-weather days in summer than winter. Plus it really isn’t that much fun pulling your airplane out of the hanger onto an ice covered ramp inContinue reading “Building Season is Here”

Bonus day in the Garaggio

I didn’t have to go back to Phoenix today, so that means bonus day in the Garaggio. I really need to send a Starbucks card to crew scheduling, because that couldn’t have been a better trip to be assigned. 🙂 This morning started with getting a coat of primer on the control surfaces, which isContinue reading “Bonus day in the Garaggio”

Wake Up Call

Those of you who know me know that I am not really a morning person. The different time zones I work in, plus the fact that I rarely can go to bed before midnight are not conducive to early mornings. The hustle and bustle of this week also compounded the desire to sleep in.  IContinue reading “Wake Up Call”

Learning has occurred

I learned from last nights mistakes and didn’t push it today. I had time constraints, so I decided I wasn’t going to push an end of day priming session, and either screw it up or be late. Good news is, Jon and Greg were able to come over to help today, so we still got aContinue reading “Learning has occurred”

Haste makes…. Lesson learned.

Short post for what seems like an eternity of sanding today. Started with sanding the primer on the canard. As expected, there were a few places that spot putty was required. However, many fewer places than the wings. I attribute that to the hours spent on the contour of the canard. Then I went toContinue reading “Haste makes…. Lesson learned.”

Mom will not be amused…

Today, in fact the last two days, have been jam packed with dusk until well after dawn activity. Mom always worries about me getting sleep and rest, so I’m sure mom will not be amused at the last few days… She reads these pages, so I’m sure I will get a “What in the HContinue reading “Mom will not be amused…”
