Lots of sanding

Today was all sanding. The good news is the canard is done, for now. The bottom side is smooth, but has a few ugly spots where the the underlying structure prints through the thin primer. If I get really ambitious I’ll put another coat on. Then I sanded out the cowl epoxy wipe. It isContinue reading “Lots of sanding”

Wipe on, Squeegee Off

I got done today with my on call shift for the week, and was able to get home at a reasonable time. So I got a little bit of Garaggio time after dinner. I started by taking the top cowl off the airplane and sanding the filler that I put on last week to repairContinue reading “Wipe on, Squeegee Off”

Garaggio time cut short

Workshop time was limited to about an hour and a half today due to the “Tuesday in Fall” airline schedule reductions. Which meant I had to leave on the 11:30 flight today instead of the 2:30 flight to get to work. So I found a small project to work on. The front seam on theContinue reading “Garaggio time cut short”

Operation Prime

Yesterday¬†I finished with simulator training for work and completed my checkride. I am now type rated on the Airbus 320. More importantly, being done with the sim means I get some time at home, and thus time in the Garaggio. Both Jon and Greg were able to come by and help today. It was 70Continue reading “Operation Prime”

Canopy Blues

Jon Myers had the day off, so he came over to help keep me motivated to sand. Which is kind of an oxymoron because if there is one thing he dislikes about this project, it is the sanding. We basically kept going where Greg and I left off yesterday. I continued on the cowl andContinue reading “Canopy Blues”

Thank you Followers!

Thank you to all of you who stop by here on a regular basis. Today the Garaggio hit 10,000 views. I think that is pretty cool. We have 35 subscribed viewers who get an email every time I make a post, and probably many more who just stop by from time to time. If youContinue reading “Thank you Followers!”

Re-run

You know that feeling when you are all excited to watch your show on TV for the night. Then you realize it is a re-run. Not only is it a re-run, but it is a re-run of the least desirable episode. That was today in the Garaggio. You guessed it, yet more contour sanding ofContinue reading “Re-run”

Ever since they shortened the day to 24 hours

Ever since they shortened the day to 24 hours, I never seem to get as much done as I want to. Or maybe it is just that most tasks in the Garaggio take longer than my optimistic plans. Whatever the reason, I must say that whatever ¬†motivation I was lacking yesterday, was located and putContinue reading “Ever since they shortened the day to 24 hours”

Here Motivation, here boy, Here Motivation

Today was one of those days in the workshop where I couldn’t seem to locate my motivation. I know it is somewhere out there, but for whatever reason it eluded me the entire time. Never the less I did spend a bit of time out there. The biggest thing I got done was making aContinue reading “Here Motivation, here boy, Here Motivation”

White is Beautiful

Yea, there is some audacity in the title, but bear with me. Today was a day with a lot happening in the Garaggio. In the morning I started by cleaning up yesterday’s gear intersection fairing layups. Basically trimming them, sanding the trailing edge to a nice tangent curve, and cleaning up any loose ends. IContinue reading “White is Beautiful”
