Today Greg came over and he spent a lot of time working on baffles. I helped here and there in between different things. I think we can say that we have the lion’s share done on the metal pieces. All sections seem to be fitting well now and most anchor points are reinforced and mounted toContinue reading “Brakes, Baffles, and Wipe”

Odds and ends, tune in tomorrow
Today was a half day in the shop. So I had a long list of odds and ends I wanted to get done. In normal fashion I only got a few of them done. Started by epoxy wiping the top of the main gear legs. In between coats of epoxy wipe, I let it tackContinue reading “Odds and ends, tune in tomorrow”
Lots of sanding
Today was all sanding. The good news is the canard is done, for now. The bottom side is smooth, but has a few ugly spots where the the underlying structure prints through the thin primer. If I get really ambitious I’ll put another coat on. Then I sanded out the cowl epoxy wipe. It isContinue reading “Lots of sanding”
Wipe your
Canopy! Finished doing the contouring of the micro on the canopy interior today. It took quite a bit longer than I anticipated due to sanding around all of the latch and hinge areas. Oh and taping everything off. In addition I had a visit from Jon and his mother, Peggy. He hadn’t seen the airplane sinceContinue reading “Wipe your”
Wipe on, Squeegee Off
I got done today with my on call shift for the week, and was able to get home at a reasonable time. So I got a little bit of Garaggio time after dinner. I started by taking the top cowl off the airplane and sanding the filler that I put on last week to repairContinue reading “Wipe on, Squeegee Off”
A Bite of the Elephant…. Ear
Today’s workshop session was cut short. Kevin and I had plans to go to the, “Great Minnesota Get Together,” aka the Minnesota State Fair. Well known for its food selection, you can pretty much get anything you want to eat. Most novelty foods come on a stick. One of the foods there is the Elephant Ear.Continue reading “A Bite of the Elephant…. Ear”
Operation Prime: Part 5
I have no clue what happened, but I had five things on my list to work on today, and I worked on all five. I finished four of them. Maybe I worked more efficiently, maybe I had less distractions, maybe I was more realistic with planning my day, or maybe all of the above. ButContinue reading “Operation Prime: Part 5”
Swinging Ri… Rudders
Today was one of those days when the weather was so nice outside that time just flew by with the doors on the Garaggio open. In fact it flew by so quickly that I only completed a little over half of what I set out to do today. No worries as everything I got done todayContinue reading “Swinging Ri… Rudders”
Operation Prime: Part 4
We will see how many “parts” to this series of blog posts it takes to actually prime something. It is kind of like the old TV commercials, how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Roll Pop? How many days of contour sanding does it take to get toContinue reading “Operation Prime: Part 4”
Operation Prime: Part 3
Had a lot of “other things” to do today, so that cut into Garaggio time. Short post tonight, as there isn’t much detail to give. I am still working towards being able to get primer on the rest of the exterior of the airplane. To that end, I contour sanded the ailerons and the places on theContinue reading “Operation Prime: Part 3”
