We got a ton done yesterday. The biggest win was getting all the control surfaces balanced. we did the layup on the new balance weights on the ailerons. So those are locked in place with 2 plies of BID. We checked the balance, and they positively balance now. The balance is past the half wayContinue reading “Sunday Funday”

Vacation
The other half is insisting on a vacation, and who am I to object? So I won’t be back in the Garaggio for a little while. Today was filled with preparations to be gone for 2 weeks. So I didn’t get what I wanted to done, but we had a very productive week. So I’mContinue reading “Vacation”
Work Party Day 11; Unable to Focus
If you haven’t already figured it out, I am not a morning person. But I had to be today. Dick needed to head out to make a meeting in Wichita, KS. But with impending awful weather… Low ceilings, gusty winds, and heavy snow… He needed to make it out before the weather got in. SoContinue reading “Work Party Day 11; Unable to Focus”
The Village
Today is that day in the States where we gorge ourself on turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and a whole array of other delicious foods. It is also a day to surround ourselves with family and friends and enjoy the blessings of our lives. For those of us in the airline industry, or any other 24/7/365Continue reading “The Village”
Road Trip
Greg and I measured all of the strings representing wiring paths this morning and took notes. Then took the instrument panel and avionics shelf out of the airplane and gathered all of the components we needed to take to SteinAir for our 1:00 meeting. We met up with Jon and basically the rest of gangContinue reading “Road Trip”
String Theory
Today I got the rest of the GTN650 mounting bracket done and clecoed into place on the panel. After that, I turned to fabricating a shelf for the remote LRUs of the G3X system. LRU is line replaceable unit, which basically means it is an electronics box that can be mounted separately from the screensContinue reading “String Theory”
Homecoming gifts
Today was the last day of reserve, and I actually got some flying this time around. I flew back from Mexico City this morning, and it was the clearest I have ever seen it over Mexico. We got to see a lot of the desolate Mexico country side including a expansive tour of the “BarrancaContinue reading “Homecoming gifts”
Looking ahead
I didn’t have a lot of time today, but wanted to make use of the morning. Needless to say I didn’t have enough time to sand. The first task was going to SteinAir to pick up some parts they didn’t need down there for the instrument panel wiring. One of the perks of living 20Continue reading “Looking ahead”
Third times the charm for N1614J
There are some things I haven’t blogged about that I need to fill people in on. I didn’t write about them mostly because they weren’t done in the Garaggio and I didn’t really think too much about documenting them at the time, or they were part of a larger story I figured could be toldContinue reading “Third times the charm for N1614J”
After Oshkosh, a nibble on the Elephant
It has been almost a month since I have posted on the Garaggio. Thats mostly because it has been a month since I have been able to spend any time in the workshop. The AirVenture Cup and Oshkosh both suck up a lot of time. I was lucky to get time off work for bothContinue reading “After Oshkosh, a nibble on the Elephant”
