Made it home from thanksgiving travels and was able to put in some time in the workshop. I’m trying to keep up with my rule of at least an hour in the Garaggio every day I’m home. So to that end, I was able to get micro on the gear doors. I’m switching gears toContinue reading “The obligatory hour”

Gear door saga continues
Today I had to work, but it was only a day trip so I got some time in the Garaggio. I got some words of advice from Mike and James on the gear doors. I am not going to worry too much if the doors snap open. But I didn’t consider side loads on theContinue reading “Gear door saga continues”
Win
This morning I woke up to a text from Mike Beasley giving me suggestions on how to fix my gear door rigging issues. His biggest suggestion was to have each end of the spring actually touch the gear doors. This will force them both to open all the way. It makes sense, and so IContinue reading “Win”
Door Actuation and nose bumper
Today Greg was in the shop with me. I showed him the progress on the gear doors since last time he was here was when we had our no good day and found out the gear doors weren’t working with the old setup. We then got to work and started with the nose bumper. ThisContinue reading “Door Actuation and nose bumper”
All is not for naught
We had a cameo appearance from John today. It was nice to have him back in the shop. Today started with cleaning up the layups from yesterday. I am pleased to report that these layups went well, and I am happy with the installation of the anchor plates. We installed the pivot anchors and hingeContinue reading “All is not for naught”
Third time is the charm?
It is November in Minnesota, and it has been a weird fall. Unfortunately, that means at least half the leaves are still in the trees, and we are forecast to get 4-7 inches of snow between tomorrow night and Wednesday morning. Of course it could be 60 and sunny too, lets hope. But I hadContinue reading “Third time is the charm?”
Gear doors, nut plates, and EZ Points…. Oh my
Yesterday’s layup turned out well. I started this morning by cleaning up the rough edges. While cleaning up the edges, I did find a few air bubbles around the gear sight window, and that will end up getting a little attention. One more ply bid over the top of the area will do it. ByContinue reading “Gear doors, nut plates, and EZ Points…. Oh my”
Gear Well Progress
Today started with prepping the nose gear well (strut area) for bonding. There was lots of sanding and rounding over corners etc. Then I released the new SC from the mold, the part of the gear well that houses the gear strut. The part turned out well. I cleaned off all the foam mold materialsContinue reading “Gear Well Progress”
I’m a monster!
Today I trimmed down the saw horses and got the airplane a bit more robustly supported. I was then able to remove the engine hoist and straps. Along with that I trimmed the last layup on the gear intersection fairings and drilled out the cowl mounting holes. It is a good feeling to be workingContinue reading “I’m a monster!”
