Are we there yet?

When I flew Beech 1900D’s for Skyway Airlines out of Milwaukee, we had a captain that was board by the time we had the gear in the wells. Probably because he had about 10,000 hours flying the ‘Beech Airliner’ around Wisconsin and da U. P. of Michigan. He had literally been there and done thatContinue reading “Are we there yet?”

I’m Over Finishing Work

VERY. OVER. IT! Putting stuff on parts only to sand most of it back off, rinse and repeat is getting old. Luckily I’m feeling like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As of today, there are only 2 major components that haven’t seen any primer yet. The canopy and the mainContinue reading “I’m Over Finishing Work”

Go-on-git! Ugly Betty is no longer welcome here.

I went to bed early last night in order to get some rest so I could wake up early this morning, well early for me. It was one cup of coffee, really not enough, then out to the Garaggio. I finished the strake to longeron intersections and spent quite a bit of time with the spot putty,Continue reading “Go-on-git! Ugly Betty is no longer welcome here.”

Wake Up Call

Those of you who know me know that I am not really a morning person. The different time zones I work in, plus the fact that I rarely can go to bed before midnight are not conducive to early mornings. Learning has occurred

I learned from last nights mistakes and didn’t push it today. I had time constraints, so I decided I wasn’t going to push an end of day priming session, and either screw it up or be late. Good news is, Jon and Greg were able to come over to help today, so we still got aContinue reading “Learning has occurred”

Sand off, prime on

Had to leave for work today, so only got a few hours in the shop. I sanded off the spot putty from yesterday. Then sanded the left wing out. Washed, dried, and put another coat, two passes, of primer on. I wanted to do three, but ran out of time. More next week.

Operation Prime Part 6

Well, we finally did it we got the first coat of primer on the wings. But before we get to that in the post, we have to talk about this morning. Jon came over to work on the airplane today so we divided and conquered. I fit the rudders to the winglets and validated thatContinue reading “Operation Prime Part 6”

Spray painter I am not – yet

Today Greg and I spent the better part of the day contour sanding the primer on the bottom of the fuselage. It is looking really good for only 3 coats. There are still a few localize low spots, but only the depth of the primer. Which brings up another point. Greg and I had aContinue reading “Spray painter I am not – yet”
