VERY. OVER. IT! Putting stuff on parts only to sand most of it back off, rinse and repeat is getting old. Luckily I’m feeling like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. As of today, there are only 2 major components that haven’t seen any primer yet. The canopy and the mainContinue reading “I’m Over Finishing Work”

Lots of sanding
Today was all sanding. The good news is the canard is done, for now. The bottom side is smooth, but has a few ugly spots where the the underlying structure prints through the thin primer. If I get really ambitious I’ll put another coat on. Then I sanded out the cowl epoxy wipe. It isContinue reading “Lots of sanding”
Garaggio time cut short
Workshop time was limited to about an hour and a half today due to the “Tuesday in Fall” airline schedule reductions. Which meant I had to leave on the 11:30 flight today instead of the 2:30 flight to get to work. So I found a small project to work on. The front seam on theContinue reading “Garaggio time cut short”
Go-on-git! Ugly Betty is no longer welcome here.
I went to bed early last night in order to get some rest so I could wake up early this morning, well early for me. It was one cup of coffee, really not enough, then out to the Garaggio. I finished the strake to longeron intersections and spent quite a bit of time with the spot putty,Continue reading “Go-on-git! Ugly Betty is no longer welcome here.”
Half day before work
Since I didn’t get the fuselage ready for primer yesterday, I decided to get up early and get a half day of work in sanding before I had to leave for work. Greg was available, so he came over to help. We concentrated on finishing the sanding on the epoxy wipe on the fuselage andContinue reading “Half day before work”
Learning has occurred
I learned from last nights mistakes and didn’t push it today. I had time constraints, so I decided I wasn’t going to push an end of day priming session, and either screw it up or be late. Good news is, Jon and Greg were able to come over to help today, so we still got aContinue reading “Learning has occurred”
Canardgate Day 63
My trip today starts at 2300 in Phoenix, so that gave me some time in the morning to work on the airplane. Yea, more sanding on the canard. I spent a lot of time on the elevator slot today which is where the contour need the most work. The elevator slot involves lots of detailContinue reading “Canardgate Day 63”
The Gang’s all here
Not only has it been a while since I have been in the workshop, but my regular helpers have been missing in action for a while too. Both due to their own reasons. But today, both Jon and Greg were able to be in the Garaggio with me. It really jumpstarted the return to progressContinue reading “The Gang’s all here”
After Oshkosh, a nibble on the Elephant
It has been almost a month since I have posted on the Garaggio. Thats mostly because it has been a month since I have been able to spend any time in the workshop. The AirVenture Cup and Oshkosh both suck up a lot of time. I was lucky to get time off work for bothContinue reading “After Oshkosh, a nibble on the Elephant”
Wake Up Call
Jon literally woke me up today to get my butt out to the Garaggio. “I’m here,” was the text I was awoken by. Probably a good thing or I wouldn’t have gotten any work done on the EZ. We started by more sanding the bottom of the wings. We also did some spot filling ofContinue reading “Wake Up Call”
