Less and Less time for the Garaggio…

More and more time studying and preparing to leave for a few weeks of Airbus training. I also had a bunch of things to do for the AirVenture Cup today, so I didn’t get to the Garaggio until Greg was able to come over in the afternoon. Having people come over to work with meContinue reading “Less and Less time for the Garaggio…”

Ever since they shortened the day to 24 hours

Ever since they shortened the day to 24 hours, I never seem to get as much done as I want to. Or maybe it is just that most tasks in the Garaggio take longer than my optimistic plans. Whatever the reason, I must say that whatever  motivation I was lacking yesterday, was located and putContinue reading “Ever since they shortened the day to 24 hours”

Todays Episode Brought to you by Sweet Martha’s Cookies

Anyone else recall how every episode of Sesame Street started with “today’s episode brought to you by the letter [A]?” Well today’s Garaggio session is brought to you by sweet Martha’s Cookies. For those of you who have never been to the Minnesota State fare, your missing out. One of the staple sod the fairContinue reading “Todays Episode Brought to you by Sweet Martha’s Cookies”

Smear the…

Today was the day to smear the top of the left wing. I am still amazed at just how much of a visual transformation it is to have a large surface all white. I am so very thankful for how much time Greg has been putting in with me lately. He was here from 0900Continue reading “Smear the…”

Distraction from Distraction

I have received a few emails and comments asking where I have been and why I haven’t posted on the blog. Rest assured that while the last 10 days or so have been full of distractions that have kept me out of the Garaggio, I had the opportunity to spend the day out there today.Continue reading “Distraction from Distraction”

ON, a wing

Today Greg was able to come over again, and we started by sanding all the epoxy wiped surfaces. This was the left wing lower surface as well as the aileron. It took quite some time, even with 80 grit. Even so, there are a few localized low spots that will need some prep before painting.Continue reading “ON, a wing”

Magic Eye

You know those Magic Eye paintings? Yea, the ones that look like some randomized, repetitive pattern. But… if you squint your eyes just right, an image appears? The Ez is starting to look just like that to me. I had one of those moments today when Greg and I put the cowl back on, andContinue reading “Magic Eye”

Onward to Primer

Today I contour sanded the epoxy wipe on the landing brake. I started with 220, and it took quite some time. I probably could have started with 80 or 120, and then switched to 220. I have received differing advice on what grit to use before applying the UV Smooth Prime. The manufacturer recommended betweenContinue reading “Onward to Primer”

Moving right along

The garaggio needed a little maintenance today. Last night, a roller on the garage door broke. luckily the door didn’t fall apart or come crashing down. So we started the workshop session by replacing the roller. On to the EZ. I started contouring the micro light patches that were applied yesterday. They all sanded outContinue reading “Moving right along”

Rough River Motivation Episode 7

Today the Garaggio had cameos from Craig and Andy. They need to build twin time, so the flew up to help on the Ez. Thanks a ton guys! Craig gave the contoured surfaces an inspection and was pretty happy with them. He did find a few areas to watch once I get primer on. HeContinue reading “Rough River Motivation Episode 7”
